It is a diverse dataset of social indicators designed to capture social conditions of the population in Latin America and the Caribbean. The indicators –grouped in five areas: Demographics, Education, Labor Market, Housing, and Income– are derived from national household survey data and, unlike traditional social databases, are disaggregated by ethnicity and race (when available), gender, geographic residence, education, and income quintile.
The management and updating of the Sociómetro-BID is provided by the Social Sector of the Vice Presidency of Knowledge and Sectors with the objective of strengthening the analytical content of social projects and studies in the region. Although indicators are obtained with information from national household surveys do not seek to be or replace the official data of a particular country. Despite the effort made to ensure the quality and comparability of data between countries, in some cases it could get away from the official definitions of one or more countries.
